Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair 2013
The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA
Los Angeles, California
February 1-3, 2013
Printed Matter is the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of publications made by artists. The companion to their NY Art Book Fair, which has been held every fall since 2006 in New York, the first-ever LA Art Book Fair boasted scores of artists, curators, dealers, book buyers, collectors, independent publishers and other enthusiasts. It was a unique international event for artists’ books, art catalogs, monographs, periodicals and zines presented by more than 180 international presses, booksellers, antiquarians, artists, and independent publishers from 18 countries.
Featured projects included an homage to Mike Kelley presented by Gagosian, a Larry Clark pop-up shop by Boo-Hooray, and a stunning new installation by John Armleder with Three Star Books. Fulton Ryder presented publications by John Dogg and Howard Johnson, unique books and Untitled Originals by Richard Prince, and naughty pulp paperbacks. Then there was Zine World: a super-sized subsection of the LA Art Book Fair, featuring zinesters from home and abroad, together with three zine exhibitions. GSD: Skate Fate till Today began from Garry Scott Davis’ early, ground-breaking skate zine publishing of the 1980s. Zine Masters of the Universe featured zines by Mark Gonzales, Ari Marcopoulos, Raymond Pettibon, and Dash Snow. Bedwetter and Beyond was a survey of the artist books and zines of Los Angeles-based artist Christopher Russell. Lectures, workshops, video and live performances also raised a ruckus throughout the weekend.–Press Release

Hi Arcane Candy. Are you able to give me any idea what the upright book (birdhouse woman on cover) in Image 21 is called? I can’t make it out from the spines of either copy in the photo. I’d like to research the artist
Hi Vanessa. I cropped down the photo so just the book cover was showing, then dragged it into Google Image Search and came up with the following links:
