Mendoza, Argentina
A Via Bariloche bus like the one I rode from Buenos Aires to Mendoza, Argentina.
A plate of stir fry vegetables at Anna Bistro in Mendoza, Argentina.
All told, I slept maybe three or four hours on the bus from Buenos Aires to Mendoza. For “breakfast,” we got a little box containing some crackers, a “sandwich” consisting of two chocolate-covered cookies with a creamy white filling in between, and some tea. When we stopped in San Luis, a bunch of people disembarked. As another action movie (is there any other kind these days?) played, I caught up on reading a little bit about the history and culture of Argentina in my South America guide book. Finally, right before noon, we pulled into the large Mendoza bus terminal. Strapping on my big backpack, and consulting my Sygic map app, which works offline, I trundled for over an hour through the busy streets of this small city westward to the spick and span Hostel Alamo, where I quickly passed out on a bunk bed for the usual four hours after an all-night bus flight. After I woke up, I splurged on a plate of expensive stir fry vegetables at the fancy pants Anna Bistro, stopped by a supermarket to pick up some grub to eat later at night, then headed back to the hostel to convalesce.
