Tropical Storm Tour: Thailand Video 1

Shaped exactly like an elephant’s head, Thailand is a vast, sweltering hot tropical kingdom whose landscape ranges from powder white beaches with turquoise water to ultra-green, lush jungles and mountains full of traditional hill tribes. Insanely ornate, gold-splashed Buddhist temples dot the villages and cities, where ramshackle shantytowns nestle up to glitzy shopping malls. Ladyboys, tuk-tuks and picturesque floating markets also await the foreign visitor’s dollars. Welcome to Thailand, one of the world’s top tourist destinations.

Tropical Storm Tour: Thailand Video 1 proceeds through the steamy streets of Bangkok, where we encounter plenty of serene Buddhist temples like Wat Arun, the Golden Mount, Wat Intharavihan and Wat Ratchanaddaram, plus artisans making silk at the Jim Thompson House, overwhelming crowds milling around the shopping centers of Siam, a King Cobra striking a pose at the Queen Saovabha Snake Farm, a cruise down the Chao Phraya river, a glance at Victory Monument, a visit with Mr. Dum who fires up his wok at the legendary Pad Thai Fire Look food stall on Sukhumvit Soi 38, a stop at the National Museum of Royal Barges, and last but not least, a roving band of street musicians plying their trade.

Background songs from the Molam: Thai Country Groove from Isan Vol. 2, Radio Thailand, and Siamese Soul, courtesy of Sublime Frequencies. For tons of photos and a detailed travel journal, visit the Tropical Storm Tour page.
