I thought I would take the day off and relax, but boy, did I think wrong. After I dropped off a postcard at the post office, I walked down a back street through Peliatan to shoot a few photos of some picturesque scenes, ending up over at Coco supermarket in South Ubud. I was on a mission to try to find a new bag, as the messenger version I’ve been using on this trip had started to split open down the side. I was kind of bummed, because, even though I got it for free, I’ve only been using it for a month now. It seems like a lot of the cheap crap made in China just falls apart after your use it a few times. Coco’s didn’t carry any such bags, so I decided to search out the shops on Jalon Monkey Forest.

By the time I got there, I was really overheated and tired, so I tried to stop at the Warung Dayu, but they were packed full of tourists. So, I ate a small cheese pizza at Dian just up the street, searched through more shops, then had another small meal at Warung Dayu. A further search of all of the shops didn’t turn up much. A couple of places had the kind of bag I needed, but wanted $40.00, which is way too much money. So, I’m going to try to find a replacement in Bangkok, hopefully for just a fraction of that price. As the sun began to set, I made my way up to central Ubud to say goodbye to my buddy, the ticket seller Nur Astika, who gave me her usual warm smile and a long, firm handshake to send me on my way. By the time I made it to Warung Schnitzel, I realized I had lost one of the two washcloths I brought on this trip to keep sweat at bay. After I ate, I retraced my steps back to the center of town, but no dice.
