Tropical Punch Tour: Thailand Part 12

Phuket Town, Thailand
The Thai sky peed down rain all day, so I just lazed around inside Phuket Backpacker Hostel and wasted a few hours of my life watching bad TV. At 6.00 p.m. I strapped on my backpack and walked a mile down the street to the Phuket Town bus terminal, where I hopped on a multi-colored double-decker bus bound for Bangkok. Up on the top level, I put my backpack next to me, but seats were assigned and a lady ended up there, so I had to put it between my legs. She was really nice, though, and offered to let me put my right foot on her footrest, as hers barely reached down that far anyway.
For the first few hours, the bus made its way down a two-lane rural road, stopping quite often to pick up passengers from random spots and occasional little bus stops. The bus pulled over at a buffet / snack spot for a quick meal, where I was lucky fo find a serving of veggies on rice. Moving on, I spied so many food stalls out in the middle of nowhere that were inexplicably open in the wee hours. It seemed kind of crazy.
About a third of the way through the 13-hour trip, we pulled onto a four-lane divided highway with two lanes in each direction, which made for a more relaxed ride since Mr. Head-On Collision was pushed out of the picture. Although I fell in and out of love, I mean sleep from this point on, I’m pretty sure the bus didn’t stop quite as often. But, to my surprise, it did make a second stop for food at another buffet joint where it was “all meat all the time,” so I had to settle for a bag of potato chips. “Sweet dreams!” Mr. Potato Head whispered into my ear as I nodded off again with my head comfortably cradled by Mr. Inflatable Neck Pillow.
