Various Artists – Land of the Rising Noise Vol. 3
Land of the Rising Noise? What we have here is a 12-track collection from the year 2000 of new Japanese music–some of it hardly what anyone would call “noise.” Acid Mothers Temple open this thing up in the most pleasant of veins with an ecstatically hovering aura of prime tribal acid drone. Other highlights include I.S.O., who check in with an ambient array of spanked echoes, blooping electronics and feedback guitar; K2 with the loudest-mastered, most extreme Merzbow-like noise collage assault; Mady Gula Blue Heaven with mild, floating, pleasure-rock psychedelia; Kazumoto Endo with another noise assault; Coa & Keiji Haino with some very enjoyable (as always) muffled, sludge-psych-rock; and Yukiko, who offers up vast splays of dark splinter ambience. The CD is all finished off with 12 minutes of towering, slop-o garage psych courtesy of guitarist Kaneko Jutoku (Kosoukuya) with the always-loved Chie Mukai on kokyu, Ikuroh Takahashi (Fushitsusha) on drums and Takuya Nishimura on bass.
