I took off the whole day to rest and catch up on blogs. One thing aside from that I did do was wash my hiking shoes in the Lanquin river. For close to a half hour, I sat in a little opening on a stone walkway that looked like it was made for that purpose, scrubbing the shoes with my fingers inside and out while dunking them underwater. I had to do it, because they were so dirty and smelly from wading through muddy water in a torrential rainstorm the night before, and hiking through the slippery, wet jungle trails of Semuc Champey yesterday. I was pretty happy they came out looking almost like new.
