Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica
A disintegrated house across the street from the Cabinas Minitigre in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica.
Last night at the Oro Verde Hostel, I moved into a bunk bed dorm room with air conditioning to clear up my heat rash. I was stoked I had the whole room to myself again, but there were a few problems. Problem number one was all of the beds in there only had a piece of super squishy foam on top of wooden slats with no plywood. It felt like sleeping on the rib cage of a Brachiosaurus skeleton. It was so uncomfortable! (Later in the morning, I found some sheets of cardboard under the other mattresses and put several of them under mine, which helped a bit.)
Problem number two was I had to sleep in the top bunk to be right next to the vents of the air con so they could blow right on my legs. But, there was no railing, so I put my backpack on the outer edge to hopefully keep me from rolling off and plummeting to my death. Problem number three was the room became ice cold, and there were no controls to adjust the temperature.
Problem number four was, around 10:00 am, a staff member told me a big group had reserved the room I was in, so they had to move me into another room. But, it had no air con, and their two other air con rooms were still occupied. So, the manager had me move down the street to his buddy’s hostel, the Cabinas Minitigre, on the corner, where there was an air con room available. So, I ended up lounging in there all day. I had planned this as a rest day anyway, so it was all good.
