Varanasi, India
A bit before sunset, I headed Northeast through the quaint and color-splashed back lanes of Varanasi into a new-to-me area of town up near Adampur. One man followed me for a little bit and kept trying to get me to go inside the temple pictured above. He probably would have then tried to charge me a bunch of money for being my guide. I just ignored him from the get-go. Another time, when I was shooting video while walking toward a crowded intersection, I accidentally caught part of a small funeral procession. Oops! Around five or six men were carrying a bamboo stretcher bearing a corpse all wrapped up in bright finery down to the local burning ghat. Luckily, no one noticed, or if they did, they were not concerned, as I never got scolded. I also caught some really good footage of the mind-blowing rivers of thick traffic on and around the streets. What a billowing, hot mess! It was a good thing I remembered to wear my earplugs. I love this town. It’s got to be one of the most photogenic urban places in India.
