Tropical Heat Tour: Myanmar Part 12

Mandalay, Myanmar
My plans to rent a bicycle and go on another photo mission for my last day in Mandalay were dashed by a torrential downpour. This was the first real rain I saw in Myanmar since I entered the country 11 days ago. I sat in the lobby of the Royal Guest House hoping the showers would subside in a short while, but no. While I waited, I shot a few pics and clips of various waterlogged pedestrians, trishaws and other vehicles plying their way through the hot mess. Finally, after 90 minutes, the rain let up somewhat, although it was still coming down, so I cracked open my umbrella and walked around the block to Min Min. The only problem was the gutters over there were totally flooded, so I couldn’t even walk toward it. I was not about to get my socks and shoes soaked. So, I settled for Mann Chinese restaurant instead, where the food is similar, but the place looks like more of a dump. After dinnertime, the sky pretty much kept dumping all evening and night. I thought about checking out the Mandalay Marionettes show, because I’ve never seen it, but I didn’t feel like dealing with the rain. Plus, it’s pretty expensive, and transport over there would make it even more so. Instead, I just hung around and caught up on my blogs.
