Tropical Punch Tour: Singapore Part 8

Singapore Botanic Gardens
I figured out that my iPod touch has a program called Voice Memos, and that I can actually record sounds onto it with the built-in microphone on the earbuds that came with it. Yippee! It may not be the highest-fi, but it’s better than nothing. As I walked to the subway, I encountered a ridiculously huge, slowly hammering racket at a construction site that could out-pound any band of any genre. So, that became the subject of my first recording.
I had such a nice time walking around the Singapore Botanic Gardens for a few hours in the late afternoon. It’s a great, big, incredibly scenic park a mile East of the Orchard Road shopping frenzy. This place is fully full of every kind of tropical bamboo, fern, palm and plant you can imagine; lakes with swans and bigger trees also dot the landscape. I counted at least four separate sets of newlyweds who had their portraits made in front of some waterfalls. Even though the weather was really hot, sitting and soaking in the serene surroundings was so relaxing.
I recorded the sounds of weirdly screeching cicadas, the rushing waterfalls and a clattering drone that emanated from a construction site where a new subway station is being built. At dusk, I rode a bus over to Fort Canning, where I recorded the amazing sound of the croaking frogs I had chanced upon a few days before. On my way to the nearby Clarke Quay subway station, I stopped to relax and people-watch on the riverbank, where I shot a photo of that insane bungie people launcher.
