Danau Bratan, Bali, Indonesia
As I started to leave my hotel today, I could hear a couple boning in the next room over. I heard what sounded like high heels walk by a little earlier, so it kind of made sense. I ate a delicious breakfast consisting of a yummy pita sandwich, eggs and toast at a really nice bakery called Roti Bedugal, then headed up to the Bali Botanical Gardens, a huge park with several meadows and buildings full of foliage, including cacti, flowers and trees. The sun was shining, so the grounds were filled with scores of families on an outing. I saw one group of a couple of dozen kids up on a hill and one of them was blasting rock music from a mobile device through a bullhorn out into the park. It was super-distorted and sounded so rad!
Next, I grabbed a motorcycle ride down the road a mile or so to Pura Ulun Danu Brutan, an impressive Hindu-Buddhist temple complex built in the 17th century. It sits on a series of small islets and features a huge Buddhist stupa and several multi-roof shrines set against the gorgeous backdrop of the mist-shrouded lake. This place is so photogenic, there were tons of tourists snapping pics of each other.
