Keiji Haino – Affection
This long, one-track affair starts out with some barely audible, poppy, “shopping mall” music, which is quickly cut out by mysterious reverb interjections. A simple, melodic, solo guitar-picking section follows, then some strumming with vocals that get louder, only to folk-rock out for awhile. The track then fades back and forth several times between some fairly massive feedback juggernauts and more desolate folk activity. A strangely muted, abstract, noise guitar cloud closes out the piece. The cover is amazing, featuring a full bleed photo of Haino sitting on a small, fancy love seat decked out in pointy shoes, striped pants and a tussled shirt, all topped off with his trademark sunglasses and waist-length, jet-black hair with razor-sharp bangs. What a dandy!
